Now the tax
season is getting started another year of tax forms and receipts are
starting to pile up. Documentation related to payroll tax returns should
be retained for a minimum of 4 years, however longer periods are generally
suggested. Although the law does not require any special kind of record
keeping retention for many payroll related items each employer, should
develop a record retention policy to ensure that records are retained
and available if necessary. Below is a suggested guideline to help employers
with payroll record retention.

OCCUPATIONAL PRIVLEDGE TAX
Please inform WE PAY when to deduct the OPT tax from your employees.
Local tax collectors are starting to issue penalties to employers who
don't withhold this tax. Remember, this tax is a once a year tax employees
must pay, if any employee works at another job and already had this
tax with-held, then the employer doesn't have to with-hold this tax
again. (Employer should get a copy of the employee's check stub or tax
receipt showing this tax being with-held, and kept in employee file).
